The road to Tokyo is going to be long, filled with ups and downs. And it all starts here.
Sharing a moment with two of the animals in my life, Newton (my horse) and Pasha (my dog). It’s so great to see how they interact together: Pasha thinks he can play with the “big boys” and the horses think he’s just a ball of fur.
Welcome to the all-new alexafairchild.com website, and to my new blog. I’ve spent the past few months working with my team to bring everything together, and it’s so exciting to see it finally live. I wanted to create a design that really reflected my own personal style, something minimalistic and modern, and I think we succeeded in doing that. Hopefully you’ll agree. 🙂
Bringing the website to life
Working on the website was a completely different experience. Suddenly I found myself on the other side of the camera, participating in photo shoots and posing with my horses. I normally feel more at home behind the lens than in front of it, but the photographers I worked with were really great at getting me to relax and feel at home in my element. I could focus on spending time with my horses, communicating and interacting with them, and everything else just fell into place naturally. It was a real learning experience for me and the next time I’m running the photo shoot, I’ll know just how to get the models to relax and feel comfortable in front of the camera!
One dream, one amazing journey
I have a goal: to compete in dressage in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. I would like to use this space to document the journey, both the highs and the lows. I know it’s going to take tons of hard work and dedication, and that’s okay. I’m determined and I have a great team working with me to help me realize my dream. This blog is a great way for me to share my thoughts and feelings. I know it won’t all be smooth sailing, but I’ve also been raised to believe that if you work hard, set a goal and strive after it, good things happen. And my dream doesn’t end in Tokyo. I’m also working on another big project, one that will probably last longer than my dressage career.
Entering the world of fashion
As some of you may know, fashion is pretty much in my blood. Both my paternal grandfather and my parents have had extensive careers in the fashion world, and I must admit, their love of fashion has certainly rubbed off on me. So in addition to my riding and studies, I’m also working on launching my own equestrian-inspired fashion brand. The idea is to develop a line of chic sportswear clothes that can be both functional and stylish. Something a rider can wear every day, while in the saddle and when hitting the town. I know there are plenty of riders like me that exist in multiple worlds, and it means a lot to have clothes that can fit into a variety of environments. So I also want to use this website to debut my new line, hopefully at the start of 2017.
As you can see, a lot’s happening. I’d love for you to follow me on this journey. The dream starts here.
