Back on the competition trail with Miss Shield
I have been busy working on training the horses these last few months. And, last week, I went to my first competition: a training competition in Uden in Holland to ease myself and my horses back into competition mode. Newton (Vanita) had been recovering from a colic operation on New Year’s Eve and we took our time to get him fit again. Romy has only been under the saddle with me approximately 4 months so we have been working on becoming a seamless combination.
It went really well and I was thrilled with both horses. The test went beyond my expectations. There are still a lot of things to improve upon but the overall performance was encouraging. Since, I had no idea what Romy was like in a competition, we were definitely going in “blind”. The great news is that she couldn’t have been more calm and I really was pleased that she gave me her all in the test and stayed focused on me throughout even though she had never done the U25 Grand Prix test! What a trouper!
Newton was also a star! After not having gone to any competition since early December, he fell right back into the show routine and performed really well! He has bounced back wonderfully and I am so delighted. I think he was happy to strut his stuff again. He is still a little on the skinny side but his muscles have been coming back really nicely and he looks great! Newton can be a little over excited and nervous at times, but in Uden he was a real sweet heart and trying his best.
I couldn’t have picked a better start to the season to wear my new Miss Shield helmet by Samshied! I am excited to be endorsed by such a great brand and to have the opportunity to wear such a beautiful, glam helmet!
